The Netherlands has introduced the world's first glow-in-the-dark markings on a 500-meter stretch of highway. The markings were created by interactive artist Daan Roosegaarde and Dutch civil engineering firm Heijmans using a special paint that contains a photo-luminescent powder. The paint charges up in the daytime and slowly releases a green glow at night, which could help drivers navigate the road without the need for streetlights. The technology is being tested with an official launch later this month. Roosegaarde first proposed the idea in 2012, and the project has been described as 'magical'.
